the official Campsite Village, as announced

According to the promoter's announcement and the Ticketmaster FAQ, the Campsite Village costs £60 a person and is available only for the Saturday shows. The package covers the Friday and Saturday nights, you bring and pitch your own tent, and it includes parking in a dedicated campsite car park, a direct walk-through route to the arena described as a few minutes' walk, and late-night bars and entertainment on both nights. Campers arrive on the Friday and leave on the Sunday morning. You can only add it to a Saturday concert ticket, so it is not available to anyone without a ticket, and it is not sold for the Sunday shows.

It is good value if you have a tent, a Saturday ticket and a group who enjoy a festival campsite. Expect it to sell out quickly: the same people who fought for tickets will want the walk-through.

what it does not cover

The Sunday shows on 12, 19 and 26 September have no official camping at all, so a Sunday ticket holder who wants to stay over is looking at a hotel room some miles away, the capped late trains to London, or an independent site. Nor is there an official option for people who do not want to pitch and carry a tent, want a proper bed, or want to stay a single night. And there is nothing official for anyone without a ticket who still wants to be part of the weekend.

camping or glamping: the honest comparison

Price. The Campsite Village is £60 a person for two nights with your own tent. Our glamping is from £699 a night per tent for up to four people, about £175 a person a night with four sharing, with the bed made, linen on it, hot showers, flushing toilets, a bar and food, a host, and your car parked beside the field. Different products at different prices; one is camping, the other is a bed in a field.

Distance. The Campsite Village is on the estate with a walk-through to the arena. We are on the far side of the park at Old Knebworth, about a mile from the stage, 30 to 40 minutes on foot along a route we confirm before the show. Nobody should book us thinking it is a two-minute stroll.

Nights and tickets. The official campsite is Saturday shows only, two nights, ticket holders only. We sell any of nine nights across the three weekends, one night or three, to anyone, with or without a concert ticket. A booking with us is never a ticket and does not get you into the park.

Traffic. Both sites let you avoid the late-night exit queue by staying put. Our approach is from the west via the B656 and Codicote, away from the Junction 7 roundabout that feeds every official car park, which matters most on the drive in.

can I camp at Knebworth Basecamp?

Not with your own tent, not this year. We do not take bring-your-own tents, campervans overnight or caravans; the field is fifty pre-pitched bell tents and nothing else, which is what keeps it calm and lets us run it well. If you want to camp, the Campsite Village is the place. tips for anyone camping at Knebworth

Arrive on the Friday if your package allows it; every big Knebworth show has jammed the A1(M) on the show day itself. Pack for a wet September field: wellies, a headtorch, a warm layer for the night. Know your exit plan before the encore, because tens of thousands of people leave at the same moment. And keep your ticket and your campsite pass separate on your phone; the campsite pass does not get you into the arena and the arena ticket does not get you into the campsite.
